HOUSTON! We have found inspiration! I am back with a new movie review, and if you’re looking for inspiration or a sign to be tenacious about your goals and dreams, A Million Miles Away is the movie for you!
A Million Miles Away is inspired by the real-life story of NASA flight engineer José Hernández, a migrant worker who achieved his dream of going to space. I’ll be honest and say the movie is a bit lengthy, but it is worth every second, and the film gives you a recipe for success. Also, Michael Peña brings a bit of comedic release into the role, so strap in and enjoy the ride!
Needless to say, I love the movie, and the film is an immersive experience because I am invested! Probably 15-20 minutes into the film, I declared myself an honorary Hernández cousin and part of his support team. Overwhelmingly, you feel the love and support of his family. How they all, in their way, poured so much support into José Hernández, so even when self-doubt seeped in, it never derailed him from his destiny. I enjoyed that it was not a sugar-coated version of events; you felt the blood, sweat, and tears to achieve everyone’s dream of José Hernández in space.

Now, y’all know I love a good love story, and Adela and José Hernández did not disappoint! Watching their genuine love and support for one another is beautiful and heartwarming. Without giving away spoilers, Adela is an inspiration and wifey goals! You see them work together to aim for the moon, and they both land amongst the stars.
There are many impactful takeaways from A Million Miles Away, but two in particular resonated with me. Humility is a huge part of success. We watch José Hernández literally reach for the stars, but that never gives him an ego or sense of superiority and ultimately makes you root for him more. I love how the film highlights the life of migrant workers and how much they contribute to our society but are constantly devalued and ignored! Also, I may be biased because my mother is a teacher, but I love how they show how much one teacher can impact our lives. Maybe it’s time their compensation represents how much we need them.
But let’s stay focused and set a reminder for September 15, 2023, and all steam A Million Miles Away on Amazon Prime Video! Y’all will not be disappointed and will feel inspired to follow the recipe and achieve your dreams!
