Embrace Adversity: Lessons from The Wild Robot

Y’all, grab your sunscreen and prepare for an adventure because, once again, my opinions have been solicited! I had the pleasure of pre-screening The Wild Robot, an epic adventure that follows the journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, aka my girl “Roz”; that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming an unexpected needed addition to the place. 

Once again, there will be no spoilers, but I absolutely love the movie. Initially, I was hesitant because it seemed like it would be an animated film only children enjoy. Still, to my delight, I was seriously wrong. The Wild Robot is a beautiful, heartwarming story that reminds us no matter what cards we receive in life, we can and must complete the task. It’s a powerful narrative that encourages us to embrace adversity with optimism and determination, and you’ll amaze yourself with your capabilities.

Tears poured through my eyes several times throughout the film, and I saw myself in multiple characters. In the movie, we watch Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) become a mother to an orphaned gosling, BrightBill (Kit Connor), with the assistance of a clever fox, Fink ( Pedro Pascal). You watch the three of them learn and grow from each other and build a community around them. 

The relationship between Roz and BrightBill reminded me of my younger brother and me. We are a dynamic duo; regardless of where life takes us, we have built an invincible bond that will last a lifetime. I also see myself in BrightBill, especially after this year, when I am recovering from a foot injury. Despite the odds, I will complete the task and return to the gym. 

I highly recommend everyone embrace their inner child and find inspiration in an unexpected movie. We all set goals and have dreams, and The Wild Robot is the perfect reminder that we will not let this year end without accomplishing all of the tasks. So, go watch it and let it inspire you to achieve your own goals. 

The Wild Robot will be released in theaters this Friday, September  27. Go check it out and tell me what y’all think.
