Growth Requires Courage: Honoring the Women Who Changed History

Peace and love Fireworks,

March is about growth.

Growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like quiet discipline. Sometimes it looks like rest. Sometimes it looks like trusting your voice and your purpose enough to move forward anyway.

This month across my social platforms, I’m dedicating my March campaign to honoring women whose courage reshaped history.

Women who spoke truth when it was dangerous.
Women who organized when the world told them not to.
Women who refused to accept the limits placed on them.

This month we are honoring:

Ida B. Wells — investigative journalist and fearless truth-teller who exposed the reality of lynching in America.

Shirley Chisholm — the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress and the first Black woman to seek a major party’s presidential nomination.

Sojourner Truth — abolitionist and women’s rights advocate whose words challenged both racism and sexism.

Fannie Lou Hamer — civil rights leader who fought tirelessly for voting rights and helped create the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party.

These women didn’t wait for permission to change the world.

They challenged systems, shifted narratives, and built movements that still shape our lives today.

New Interview Feature

An interview featuring me just went live, and it dives deeper into my platform, storytelling, and the purpose behind my work.

If you’re curious about the bigger vision behind The Misunderstood Afro Muslimah, this conversation covers a lot of ground.

In the interview we talk about:

• The origin of my blog and why storytelling matters
• How identity, faith, and culture shape my perspective
• Using writing as a tool for reflection and empowerment
• The importance of creating space for nuanced conversations
• The long-term vision for my platform and community

If you take a moment to watch it, I’d genuinely love to hear what resonated with you.

What I’m Learning Right Now

Growth requires paying attention to the lessons life is offering.

• Discipline often looks quiet before it becomes powerful
• Listening to my body is a form of self-trust
• The ancestors left us blueprints if we’re willing to study them
• Protecting peace is necessary for real growth

Three Ways to Honor Growth This Month

🌱 Study the women who built the road
Learning their stories reminds us that courage and leadership have always existed in our communities.

🌱 Reflect on your own evolution
The growth you once prayed for might be the life you’re building right now.

🌱 Choose environments that nurture your future
Growth requires the right soil. Protect your energy, time, and vision.

From the Blog

My newest reflection explores discipline, health, and learning to trust my body:

PCOS, Discipline, and Self-Trust: Learning to Listen to My Body

Growth isn’t something we celebrate only at the end of the journey.

It’s something we practice daily.

By honoring the women who came before us, we also honor the woman we are becoming.

Thank you for being part of this community.

With intention and growth,
