Exploring Princess Jasmine’s Impact in Aladdin

This next princess she’s okay, but I want more to judge fully. Princess Jasmine, from Aladdin, is the only Disney Princess without her stand-alone movie, so it’s hard to judge her.

But here I go; I enjoyed the movie Aladdin, which is on my top 10 Disney movie list, even though I have some serious beef with the film over the stereotypes, cultural inaccuracies, and failure to give Jasmine a stand-alone movie. I think part of the reason I enjoy Aladdin is that it is closest to a Muslim Disney prince and princess that I saw, and at the time, there wasn’t a Black Disney Princess.

But now, let me get on with my review! Aladdin’s setting was in a fictional Arab country, and you hear and see some Arabic in the film, so my first question is, why is it Princess Jasmine instead of Yasmine? And I was extra disappointed by that because my favorite female cousin’s name is Yasmine, and that would have been hella dope to say my cousin is Princess Yasmine!

In the original Aladdin, Jasmine was meh, like a chess piece being moved around the board. But they did redeem her character in the live-action Aladdin! Princess Jasmine was more outspoken and knew what she wanted out of life. She was even given a song, Speechless, that I enjoy and a part of my Disney Playlist. Princess Jasmine was tired of her future being dependent upon a man she married, but she knew she could run the country on her own. I loved that, in the end, she was the one to rescue and save the day. Now I wish they’ll make a spin-off and focus on Jasmine, more of her back story and life of her being Sultan.

So, for now, I like Princess Jasmine, but I still want more from her to properly rank her.
