Y’all, I have turned into my cliche affirmations, and I am creating the life of my dreams! Now, it has never been a goal or dream to be an influencer, mainly because I lacked the confidence. The influencer girlies seemed fabulous and a beauty standard I could never achieve. I unfortunately believed I was not good enough to be an influencer or my platform wasn’t interesting enough for brands to want to partner with me. Then one elevated night, I said to myself, “Fuck That Shit,” my favorite line from Jar Head, and then decided to take my opinions and platform to the next level.
I knew I wanted to partner with brands that represented parts of myself, and I wanted to start with a passion project. I have been sharing my PCOS journey and set a goal to work with a brand that supports women’s health. And Al-Humduillah, my first brand deal was with Thinx. A period underwear line whose mission is to normalize the conversation about menstruation and create affordable and reusable options. I am thrilled and honored to be a Thinx Leader; from a young age, I have hated how much of the womanhood experience is a secret or inappropriate conversation in the mixed company. My thought process is simple: if half the population has to go through it, then all of the people should be well informed about the realities of having a uterus.
Around the same time, a representative from Leafwell, a medical marijuana card company, contacted me about a partnership. Now, y’all, my herbal delight journey has been an experience. I was diagnosed with Ocular Hypertension, the step before glaucoma, at twelve, and quickly had to learn a lot about optic health. So, when people hear glaucoma, they tend to ask me if I’ve tried cannabis. I hesitated, but the pandemic shook things up and began researching the topic. Long story short, I was thrilled to become a Leafwell Partner, share my discoveries, and become more vulnerable with you all.
I have learned so much throughout this experience, and I stepped out of my comfort zone and felt the growth. The best part is that it’s only the beginning! I can’t wait to share more about the brands and my experiences as an influencer girlie.
So, it’s official: I’m an influential content-creating blogger, The Misunderstood Afro Muslimah. Google me.
