Red One: A Fresh Holiday Movie Review

Ho ho ho! My opinions have been once again solicited, but this time by the big man in red!

I had the pleasure of prescreening Red One. This Christmas action-adventure comedy film experience brings a fresh and needed twist to the holiday season. As a bonus, I watched the film in LA; this Muslimah made it to Hollywood and gained a bit of Christmas spirit that I have heard so much about! 

Full disclaimer: I am the Grinch, and I typically hate Christmas movies, especially when everyone turns warm and nice, gaining the Christmas spirit.  Red One is officially the exception to the rule. I enjoyed the film from beginning to end, it has a perfect mix of everything!

Red One is the perfect mix of i-spy meets the North Pole, a reimagined view of Santa Claus and his operation. I was on the edge of my seat when the film began. The cast is phenomenal, and everyone plays their role with perfection. 

“It’s not our job to change people; they change themselves.”

Now, y’all know by now, I love a good theme and message in a movie; Red One did not disappoint. The movie dug a bit deeper than the typical Christmas spirit and be kind message. It did a great job of illustrating life is all about choices, but there is always time to choose differently. Regardless of who or what you are, life is complicated, and there are numerous reasons why we behave the way we do. Sometimes, it’s best to step back and understand the why. A naughty lister may not be bad; they might just be a bit misunderstood.

“Every decision, big or small, is an opportunity.” 

As for this aspiring naughty lister, I highly recommend Red One. It’s the perfect holiday movie that everyone will enjoy. For my Disney adults, there is a little nugget in there—you’re welcome! 

When Red One is released in theaters this Friday, November 15th, it’s time to get in the spirit or at least a joyful distraction from all the chaos. Let me know what you think. Above all else, being naughty or nice is something only you can decide for yourself; you don’t just end up on a list.
