Pressure Movie Review: The Quiet Power Behind D-Day

Brace yourself, another storm is brewing, and my opinions are here to spread light on overlooked heroes. I had the pleasure of prescreening Pressure, a film set 72 hours before D-Day, as the fate of the free world hangs in the balance.

Yes, we are diving back into WWII. There are multiple lessons from this particular era in history: “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it”, and this film does an excellent job baking a layered cake of meaning and perspective.

Pressure follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice—launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.

“Weather, everyone wants to know what it’s going to be, but few want to know the why.”

-Captain James Stagg

Before watching this film, I never paid much attention to who the meteorologist was predicting the weather during war. I severely underestimated the importance and stress of that position, and Pressure is the perfect name for this movie. I felt the anxiety and the weight of the world throughout the film, but my biggest takeaway was Captain Stagg’s calm demeanor. You could see throughout the movie him channeling out the noise of chaos, and staying focused on the task at hand. Facing the lack of better words, unideal data, and standing firm with his perspective. At the same time, not being the loudest person in the room is a reminder never to underestimate quiet power.

“Follow the data, not the optional history.”

– Captain James Stagg

I highly recommend this film and encourage you to reflect on your younger self. Rarely do we hear children say, “When I grow up, I want to be a Meteorologist.” Throughout this film, I could see my younger self inspired to pursue it as a career. Although I do not want to go back to school to study Meteorology, it did inspire me and reinforced my theme for this year. When you see an opportunity, go for it, don’t overthink, go!

“We had better meteorologists than the Germans.”

-General Dwight D. Eisenhower

Pressure is released in theaters on Friday, May 29, 2026. My official position is to see the movie and then tell me what you think.
