Hey Fireworks!
It’s been a busy few weeks over here at The Misunderstood Afro-Muslimah, and apparently, we are OUTSIDE! From movie reviews and press conferences to BGV LIVE, CBC, a new program, and an upcoming trip to Philadelphia, there’s plenty to catch up on.
So, here’s what’s happening in my world lately. 🦋
🎬 Latest on the Blog: The Uprising
We’ve been talking movies!
I recently had the opportunity to prescreen Focus Features’ The Uprising, and after sitting with the film, I shared my final thoughts in:
“Enough Is Enough: My Final Thoughts on The Uprising”
The film left me thinking about leadership, justice, revolution, patience, and what happens when people finally decide they’ve had enough.

But before the final review, I had the chance to go a little deeper.
🎥 Queens, Peasants & Power
I also attended The Uprising Virtual Global Press Conference and heard directly from the cast and creative team, including Paul Greengrass, Andrew Garfield, Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston, and Woody Norman. (Kareema)
Naturally, my analytical brain had a field day. 😂
We talked about leadership, pain, power, rebellion, and one of my favorite themes from the conversation: the influence of people whose power is often underestimated.
I gathered my favorite moments and takeaways in:

🧡 Come Kiki With Me on BGV LIVE
When I’m not writing, there’s a good chance you can find me LIVE!
I’m continuing to host Black Girl Vitamins LIVE on TikTok, where we talk wellness, PCOS, vision, mobility, vitamins, lifestyle—and inevitably wander into whatever else the ladies decide we need to discuss that day. 😂
At this point, it really has become our little live talk show.
Come join the Kiki on TikTok at @blackgirlvitamins. My schedule drops weekly, so keep an eye out for when Kareema, The Afro Muslimah will be LIVE!
🏛️ I’ll Be at CBC!
This Thursday, I’ll be attending the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference representing Black Girl Vitamins.
The conference runs September 16–20 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., bringing together leaders, advocates, professionals, students, and changemakers from across the country. (Congressional Black Caucus Foundation)
I’m excited to spend the day learning, exploring, connecting, and—of course—bringing you along for some of the fun.

📚 Next Chapter: The ASPECT Program
October also brings a new adventure: the ASPECT Program!
I’ll officially begin the program on October 1, adding another opportunity to learn, ask questions, and continue exploring my growing interests in advocacy, policy, and the systems that shape our lives.
There will be plenty more to share as that chapter begins, so stay tuned. 🤓
🌿 Next Stop: Black Cannabis Week
And then… The Afro Muslimah is heading to Philadelphia!
The Misunderstood Afro-Muslimah has officially been approved for a Black Cannabis Week 2026 Press & Media Credential, and I’ll be covering Black Cannabis Week and the Cannabis Opportunities Conference.
I’ll be exploring several sides of the conversation—from cannabis policy and business opportunities to Black culture, history, and entertainment.
And if you’ll be there too, come join the fun! I’m currently planning to check out:
🌿 Policy Summit
🌿 Cannabis Opportunities Conference Expo
😂 High Black History Comedy Show
💃🏾 CannaBliss Burlesque featuring Luna Skyy
Follow along because I’ll be sharing the experience and bringing some of what I learn back home to the blog.
Until Next Time 🦋
There’s a lot happening, but somehow it all feels connected: writing, hosting, asking questions, exploring new rooms, and sharing what I discover along the way.
As always, thank you for reading, watching, joining the Kiki, and growing with me.
We’ve got places to go. ✨
Kareema
