Movie Review:Beauty and the Beast

Now, let’s get into Beauty and The Beast! I saw the cartoon as a child and was not a fan. Little me couldn’t ever understand how Belle fell in love with the Beast, so it was a no for me.

As an adult, when the live-action was released, I decided to give it another chance. I enjoyed and understood Belle. She was the only literate person in her town, and an attractive idiot was trying to marry her. Gaston wasn’t charming, brave, or intelligent, so I get that the dating pool was slim.

I admire Belle for dropping everything to save her father and trading places with him when the Beast imprisoned him. Belle is a bookworm and inquisitive about life, but I’m still stuck on the fact that she ended up with the Beast. I understand the message of this movie was about inner beauty and not judging a book by its cover. But Beast was an asshole, dragging all his homies down with him! Then he was satisfied being a beast for the rest of his life, which also meant killing his friends, crew, and staff under the spell with him.

So, as I see it, The Beast was the damsel in distress, and Belle saved him and all of his homies too! I really want to like Belle, but I hate their love story.

I can’t think of a depiction of Beauty and The Beast that did not annoy me.
