✨ January Fireworks: FOCUS

Glaucoma Awareness Month | A Clearer Way Forward

The beginning of a new year doesn’t need pressure—it needs presence.
January’s theme is Focus: on our health, our vision (literally and figuratively), and the daily habits that protect our future selves.

Glaucoma Awareness Month is deeply personal for me. Living with glaucoma has taught me that eye health isn’t passive—it’s maintenance, consistency, and advocacy. So we’re starting 2026 by focusing on what sustains us.

👁️ 5 Eye Health & Glaucoma Maintenance Tips

1. Never skip your eye drops
Consistency matters more than perfection. Set alarms, stack habits, and treat your drops like non-negotiable self-care.

2. Reduce eye strain
Screens, stress, and poor lighting add up. Practice the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

3. Stay hydrated throughout the day
Hydration supports overall eye function. Sip consistently instead of chugging all at once.

4. Prioritize sleep and stress management
Rest is medical care. Poor sleep and chronic stress can impact eye pressure and inflammation.

5. Keep your appointments—even when you feel “fine”
Glaucoma is often silent. Monitoring progression is how we protect long-term vision.

🌱 New Year Affirmations (Save These)

  • I focus on what sustains me.
  • I honor my health through consistency, not guilt.
  • I am allowed to move slowly and still move forward.
  • My daily habits are building my future.
  • I trust myself to care for my body wisely.

🏋🏽‍♀️ Fitness Focus: Move With Intention

Movement supports circulation, stress regulation, and overall wellbeing—all important for eye health.

This month, I’m focusing on low-impact, sustainable movement:

  • Walking
  • Yoga & mobility work
  • Boxing drills with controlled breathing
  • Stretching and recovery

The goal isn’t intensity—it’s consistency.

🥗 Nutrition Focus: Feed Your Vision (Nut-Allergy Safe)

Nutrition plays a supportive role in eye health and inflammation management—without needing to be complicated.

Nut-free, eye-supportive foods to focus on:

  • Leafy greens – spinach, kale, collards
  • Omega-3s – salmon, sardines, trout, flaxseed oil, chia seeds
  • Vitamin C – citrus, bell peppers, strawberries
  • Vitamin E (nut-free sources) – sunflower seeds, avocado, olive oil
  • Zinc – beans, lentils, chickpeas, eggs

Focus tip:
Think colorful plates, whole foods, and steady hydration. Nourishment is another form of maintenance.

🔥 January Intention

This month, we’re focusing—not forcing.
On awareness.
On consistency.
On showing up quietly, daily, and with care.

Here’s to protecting our vision, our health, and our future—one focused habit at a time.

With intention,
Kareema ✨
